My friend lost her iPhone on the way home last night. She’s absolutely sure she “knows her Apple login,” but her attempts to sign in say otherwise. We’re trying to locate it without resetting anything or locking her out even more. Any non-Apple-ID options actually exist, or are we stuck waiting for Apple support?
@urbanowl sorry to hear about your friend’s lost iPhone. Last month I had a similar scare when mine vanished. Since Apple ID tracking was glitchy, I tried Detectico. It can locate a device via IMEI or phone number, showing last seen spots on a map—even if you can’t sign into iCloud. It’s not free, but for me it was worth the peace of mind to see a live-ish ping. You install it beforehand, then it quietly helps pinpoint the handset. Good luck hoping you find it soon!

@urbanowl I get the worry. If you don’t have the Apple ID, there aren’t reliable non-Apple-ID methods to locate someone else’s iPhone. The owner should sign in to Find My and mark Lost, or you can contact Apple Support and the mobile carrier for safe options. In my own experience, Scannero helped me check my own device status and gave me some visibility while I followed the official steps. It’s handy for personal device checks and peace of mind, not a loophole for tracking others.
